Parti-colored Surcoat and Matching Tunic

updated ?

This surcoat was one of my hastily constructed garb items for Pennsic 2015. I've always loved parti-colored garb (garments that are one color/pattern on one side and a different color/pattern on the other) and I wanted to make a surcoat in our barony's colors, gules and azure (red and blue).

I used some cotton broadcloth in red and blue, plus some scrap white fabric I had for the lining. I made several mistakes while making this garment. Chief among them was cutting one side on the bias, and one side on the grain. -facepalm-

Only the bodice portion is lined. I sewed the whole thing using white thread on a sewing machine that was malfunctioning in a way I was unsuccessful at troubleshooting. It is definitely not one of my prettiest pieces! I made a matching sleeveless tunic for my partner, Lord Vytautas Vilkas. The picture to the right is of the two of us at Pennsic 2015.
